MotoE, energy wins at Misano: our story from the circuit

Emphasis, evolution and lots and lots of energy. The MotoE is; it was this and much more during the race weekend that just ended, which brought the world championship circus to the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli in the heart of the Motor Valley that stands out below San Marino , of which the Grand Prix flies the flag.

On the asphalt of the 4226 meters long Misano Adriatico circuit, softened by ten right-hand corners, six left-handers and pursued by a final straight of 510 meters, not only the bikes of the premier class, the MotoGP , or more; in general, two or four-wheeled sports vehicles with internal combustion engines: from 2019 the Ego Corsa by Energica will also compete, the motorcycles with permanent magnet electric motors that compete in the E class of the World Championship. These are racing bikes that, as their name reveals, have a lot in common with the road counterpart Ego while showing in all its power a racing soul that is combined with a developed equipment just for racing.

To get on the track & egrave; therefore also mobility; of the future , already & agrave; widely cleared in the present, which we have had the good fortune to touch on the circuit with Enel X . Just on the eve of the San Marino Grand Prix and the Rimini Riviera, the Enel Group business line announced the continuation of the agreement with the MotoE, which it will recharge; in quality of Official Smart Charging Partner for another three seasons until 2024, with the possibility; to extend the agreement also for the two-year period 2025-26.

That of the Misano GP & egrave; was one of the most important stops; significant of the year not only because & egrave; the penultimate home for Valentino Rossi before retiring from racing, but because & eacute; yes & egrave; disputed the final round of the category reserved for electric motorcycles with the two final races of the season that crowned the Spanish Jordi Torres of the HP Pons 40 team, winner, for the second consecutive year, of the FIM Enel MotoE & trade; World Cup.

And in addition to the Ego Corsa, which are 100% Italian and have a power of 120 kW that pushes them up to 260 km/h, the inevitable protagonist of the weekend & egrave; was the new charging infrastructure of Enel X, the Juice Roll Race Edition , freshly replaced, last May 2 in Jerez de la Frontera, of the & quot; old & quot; JuicePump 50 used in the first and second seasons of the Cup.

INTELLIGENT INFRASTRUCTURE

ll JuiceRoll Race Edition & egrave; a charger with internal storage consisting of two units & agrave; interconnected, i.e. a unit semi-mobile (SMU) and a unit & agrave; mobile (MU), which can load the Ego Corsa in just 40 minutes. The unit semi-mobile is located inside the e-Paddock and has a direct current output up to 50 kW and a 22 kW AC input line. Pu & ograve; moreover, it has a 51 kWh storage battery. But it does not end there: the energy also comes from 60 solar panels, mounted in the charging area, which carry the capacity; total installed at 21 kWp. Storage and solar panels allow only 4-5 kW to be taken from the grid.

Passing in the pit late, directly from the starting grid, we find the unit & agrave; mobile that & egrave; a 10 kW DC charger powered by the SMU and consisting of an integrated 6 kWh storage system. The MU provides the & quot; final charge & quot; in just seven minutes, allowing the motorcycles to travel a greater distance than in previous years.

For the charging session in the e-Paddock, the Enel X infrastructure & quot; charges & quot; motorbikes up to 1 MW, distributed over 20 chargers, requiring only 100 kW of solar panels and the network as it is equipped with integrated storage.

AN INNOVATION LABORATORY

The challenges of the Energica motorcycles have proved to be adrenaline-pumping and fun like those of the & quot; traditional & quot; classes, breaking through the aura of skepticism that has enveloped battery-powered vehicles for years, also thanks to the performance improvements experienced by the category season after season.

And the MotoE, in the end, is; managed to intrigue and conquer not only the spectators, many of whom admitted to having approached the electric just enjoying the show from the sofa or from the grandstand, but also the champions of the two wheels themselves. One of them & egrave; Loris Capirossi , three-time world champion of motorcycling in the 125 and 250 classes and Dorna representative, who exclusively told HDmotori.it about his experience with mobility; electric:

& quot; In recent years there & # 39; & egrave; It was a radical change towards electric: I myself use a battery-powered utility car every day and I feel great, 'explained the former driver. & quot; Driving an electric motorcycle on the track & egrave; much more; simple and makes you experience completely different sensations: the power of the engine & egrave; always the same, there are no gears, you just have to concentrate on driving. Silence, then, is; the thing that most strange & ugrave; at the beginning: the first time I heard the noise of the soap crawling on the asphalt and it is; it was very strange, but very fascinating & quot ;.

Even if the MotoGP, category from which & quot; Capirex & quot; comes, will keep; petrol engines for a while longer, there is no shortage of questions about its future and the specter of an inevitable change. Hybrid or full electric , this will be & agrave; the dilemma: after all, by browsing the nearby pits, Formula 1 and other categories of motorsport already have; introduced (or will shortly) more motorizations; eco-sustainable. A destiny already; marked? As stated in the quote from Battisti printed on the helmet & quot; bowed & quot; that Valentino Rossi wore in Misano (a dedication to his future daughter): & quot; We will find out only by living & quot ;.
