Lotus unveils new platform for future electric sports cars

The Lotus Emira will be & agrave; the latest sports car with internal combustion engine of the English brand. As we know, the car manufacturer will move & agrave; his attention towards electric models . In particular, 4 new battery-powered cars will arrive by 2026 . Finally, in 2026 will come & agrave; an electric sports car that Lotus calls, for the moment, Type 135 and that will be; built in collaboration with Alpine. And speaking of the sports car, Lotus has shared some first details of the E-Sports platform on which it will be & agrave; realized.

POWER UP TO 650 KW

The new structure & egrave; was created through Project LEVA (Lightweight Electric Vehicle Architecture), announced last October by Lotus. This is a research program to accelerate the development of lightweight structures for next-generation electric vehicles. Thanks to this work, the brand makes known, the rear structure of the platform is; more 37% lighter than that of the Lotus Emira V6.


The new platform & egrave; was developed to be very flexible , in order to be used as a basis for a range of vehicles that will have one or two engines, of capacity batteries; and different pitches.



The batteries, which range from 66, 4kWh to 99.6kWh of capacity , they can be placed in the center of the frame (as in the Evija hypercar) or arranged in a more ugrave way; conventional under the floor to be able to create cars that can accommodate both two and four people with wheelbases from 2,470 mm to more; of 2,650 mm. As for the engines, Lotus declares that on the platform it will be able to & agrave; be used a single unit & agrave; 350 kW or a powertrain with double 650 kW engine.

The performances that the future electric sports cars from Lotus can offer, in light of the promised powers, should be very interesting. The new platform will be able to also be sold to third parties through Lotus Engineering .
