In late August, Hyundai unveiled its IONIQ 5 made in collaboration with Motional which will be used as part of a robotaxi service from 2023 in some cities; American thanks to an agreement with Lyft. Car that we were also able to admire closely during the 2021 Munich Motor Show where the Korean manufacturer announced several novelties; including the will & agrave; to become carbon neutral from 2045.
As it turns out, Hyundai and Motional appear to be wasting no time. A CarScoops reader, in fact, intercepted a prototype of this particular car during some tests at a Las Vegas airport. The IONIQ 5 & quot; robotaxi & quot; appears disguised but & egrave; easily recognizable thanks to the multiple sensors available to be able to offer, in the future, autonomous driving of Level 4 (Here we explain the different levels of autonomous driving). Between cameras, radar and LiDAR, the car will have; of over 30 sensors, many of which can be clearly seen in different parts of the bodywork.
The photos also show a person driving. When the development will be; complete, the cars will no longer have; of a driver. However, in case of problems, they can be managed remotely by an operator. Always on the safety side, the car will have; of redundant systems. However, there is still a long way to go by 2023 and therefore Hyundai and Motional have plenty of time to develop the best car for the passenger transport service.
LOTS OF TECHNOLOGY
The base, of course, is; that of the Hyundai IONIQ 5 that we already have; got to try and with which we also went to the Munich Motor Show. In addition to the presence of the sensors and the autonomous driving platform developed by Motional, the changes also affected the interior of the car.
The passenger compartment will be characterized & agrave; due to the presence of a series of interfaces that will allow passengers to interact with the vehicle during journeys, perhaps to change the destination of arrival. If all goes well well, the project foresees the expansion of the service in multiple cities; Americans.
Finally, please note that Motional & egrave; a joint venture created by the Korean manufacturer with Aptiv, aimed at developing self-driving cars.
