Skoda focuses on artificial intelligence and opens its own laboratory

Skoda has decided to focus on artificial intelligence and has inaugurated the ; AIM.Lab in collaboration with the Technical University of Ostrava, in the Czech Republic. AIM.Lab stands for Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing Laboratory and is; located within the University Campus. The three main areas of interest are data analysis, applications of artificial intelligence and machine learning and the challenges of optimization in industrial practice.

According to Skoda, AIM.Lab & egrave; a unique initiative in the automotive industry. The project & egrave; was developed after many years of collaboration between Skoda's Department of Digitization and Industry 4.0 and the Facolt & agrave; of Electronic and Computer Engineering of the University. Thanks to the knowledge in the field of production, students will work to solve problems in the context of industrial practice. The plan also includes collaborations with other industrial partners and cooperations with institutions.

The collaboration between Skoda and the Universit & agrave; of Ostrava goes on from 2019 . The two realities, in fact, are working on new technologies in the field of assistance systems. For example, within the project of the National Center of Competence for Cybernetics and Artificial Intelligence, Skoda and the Universit & agrave; are developing the new & quot; Follow the Vehicle & quot; assistance system.

The objective & egrave; develop a convoy driving system following the principle of 'two vehicles, one driver'. The vehicle in front & ndash; led by a human & ndash; decides the road, speed, lane and other parameters. The data extracted from the movements of the steering wheel, from the acceleration and deceleration are transmitted in mode; wireless to the second, self-controlled vehicle, which follows at a distance of up to ten meters.

Looking to the future, Skoda is also working in the Czech Republic to create a mobility hub ; electricity as part of its business plan. The production of the batteries for its electric SUV ENYAQ iV will start; inside the Mlad & aacute plant; Boleslav at the beginning of 2022.
