The head of the Security Police, Klas Friberg, announced today that he is resigning as head of the authority for private reasons.
His successor, Charlotte von Essen, has since May 2017 has been deputy head of the security police.
– It is with pride that I have agreed to become head of the Security Police. Being head of Sweden's security service is a fantastic and at the same time challenging assignment in the security situation we are in, says Charlotte von Essen in a press release.
Klas Friberg leaves the assignment as security police chief on 20 September. The employment then ends at his own request and he retires, according to Säpo.
Charlotte von Essen will take office on October 1.
