The Apple event expected for September is getting closer and the information density around the expected innovations is increasing accordingly. A new design is looming for the Apple Watch Series 7, which should also bring larger cases. Rumors originate from Asia that the large model should offer 45 mm.

The iPhone 4 design lives on

The iPad Pro was the first of Apple's current products to revive the flattened sides of the iPhone 4, followed later by the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro. In late summer, the Apple Watch Series 7 will also adopt this design feature, as earlier rumors from May and the first renderings based on it can be seen. Larger models of the smartwatch have also been rumored.

Bracelet with 45 mm imprint photographed

A first picture now comes from Asia showing a new Apple Watch bracelet with the imprint “45 mm” on the Should show underside. The picture published by “DuanRui” on Twitter comes from the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Doubts about the authenticity of the photo are certainly justified in the case of rumors, but 9to5mac claims to have heard rumors of the same kind.

Housing planned in 41 mm and 45 mm

Both versions of the Apple Watch Series 7 should be slightly larger than last year's model. The Apple Watch Series 6 (test) is offered in a 40 mm and a 44 mm case. The Apple Watch Series 7 should be 41 mm and 45 mm. Slightly larger housings and the previously rumored narrower display bezels speak for larger screens overall this year. A new lamination should also bring the OLED display closer to the glass and ensure better readability. A new S processor and UWB chip are also planned for the smartwatch. A rugged model, however, should not follow until 2022.

Bracelets should still fit

Judging by the previous model changes, larger cases should not have any influence on the compatibility of bracelets that have already been purchased. The cases that were 38 mm and 42 mm in size up to and including the Apple Watch Series 3 and, since the Apple Watch Series 4, are currently 40 mm and 44 mm in size, have so far never had an impact on the bracelets, which can be used across generations.
