The presentation of financial data for the second quarter of 2021 by Tesla & egrave; was an opportunity for the automaker to provide some updates on several of its projects. One of these concerns the production of new 4680 cells announced during Battery Day. Cells that are fundamental for the expansion programs of the American brand as they will have to be used on several new models.

< p>The last update was in late April when Elon Musk had said that these cells were not yet ready and that mass production would have to wait between 12 and 18 months. The good news is; that important progress has been made. The bad & egrave; that there will be & agrave; still need some of work to achieve mass production.

We have successfully validated the performance and durability of our 4680 cells manufactured at our Kato, California facility. We are nearing the end of production validation: quality & agrave; and yields are at sustainable levels and our goal now is; improve 10% of the processes that currently hinder production. Although substantial progress has been made, we still have some work to do before we can reach mass production.

The new cells will be used on several new vehicles from the American manufacturer including the Tesla Semi and Tesla Model Y built in Texas and Germany. Once all the production processes have been refined, the car manufacturer will be able to accelerate the construction of cells also within the new factories that it is building. It should also be remembered that Tesla's partners, including Panasonic, are also working on the development of the 4680 cells.

TESLA SEEDS, MORE REFERENCE

The lack of adequate production of the new batteries immediately impacts yet another postponement of the launch of the electric truck Tesla Seeds to 2022 . A report had recently surfaced stating that the start of production was imminent. It seems, however, that it will not be & agrave; so it is.

We believe we are on track to build the first Model Ys in Berlin and Austin in 2021. The pace of their respective production ramps will be pacing. influenced by the introduction of many new products and manufacturing technologies, the continuing challenges related to the supply chain and regional permits. To better focus on these factories and because of the availability; limited battery cell and global supply chain challenges, we have moved the launch of the Tesla Semi program to 2022.

In short, in addition to batteries, the Tesla Semi program is; was also lagging behind due to the problem of the supply chain of automotive components and the will & agrave; Tesla to focus on starting Model Y production in Texas and Germany. SUVs that will have 4680 cells. Actually, the Tesla Semi was waiting for the start of production of the new cells was not; a novelty. Already in the past Elon Musk had stated that the development of the electric truck was substantially finished but that greater availability was expected; of the new cells .

The American brand has also provided a small update on the Cybertruck electric pickup. Tesla has announced that it is making progress in the industrialization phase of this model which will be; made in the Gigafactory of Texas after the start of production of the Model Y. Perhaps the brand will succeed; to create some units & agrave; of the pickup by the end of the year but apparently we will need to wait until 2022 for mass production.
