Mini-LED display in iPad mini
The renewed iPad mini 6 could have a larger screen, thanks to the narrower bezels. According to DigiTimes, however, there is also a mini-LED display in it. This comes on top of other rumors about a USB-C port, Touch ID in the power button, a fast A15 chip and a Smart Connector for accessories. It can be read in an article by DigiTimes (behind paywall) about the activities of manufacturer Radiant Optoelectronics. The company will begin production of backlight units for the iPad mini and MacBook Pro in the third quarter of 2021. Both are equipped with mini-LED, the new screen technology that you will also find in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2021.
Production will be significantly increased in the fourth quarter, DigiTimes has learned. Mini-LED offers better contrast, deeper blacks and more brightness. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also claimed that the iPad mini will get mini LED one day, but he expected the switch as early as 2020 with a 7.9-inch model. However, that didn't happen. Still, the screen technology remains in the picture as the next step to improve the screens of the iPads. According to Bloomberg, we can expect the next iPad mini this year. That the production of the screens will start in the third quarter fits in well with that.
