The Antitrust Authority initiates a non-compliance proceeding against Autostrade

The Authority & agrave; Competition and Market Guarantor initiated proceedings against Autostrade per l & rsquo; Italia (ASPI), for non-compliance with the warning that required the cessation of an incorrect practice, ascertained last March.

In essence, ASPI, which manages over 3,000 kilometers of motorways in Italy, has not followed up the injunction with which it was ordered to reduce tolls on various motorway sections affected by extraordinary works for the safety of infrastructures that suffer from serious deficiencies in management and maintenance.

As ascertained by the Antitrust Authority,

the motorway concessionaire has not reduced the cost of the toll and/or has not adopted any procedure to recognize tariff concessions and reimbursements for the motorway sections in which verify significant critical issues; in the viability; due to extraordinary works for the safety of infrastructures that suffer from serious deficiencies in management and maintenance.

At the end of the investigation, the Antitrust Authority had fined the concessionaire with the maximum administrative sanction envisaged, equal to 5 million euros . In case of repeated non-compliance the Authority & agrave; may & agrave; also order the suspension of the activity of business for a period not exceeding thirty days.

Pi & ugrave; in detail, the fine was imposed for the failure to reduce the toll on the A/16 Napoli/Canosa, A/14 Bologna/Taranto, A/26 Genova Voltri-Gravellona Toce motorways and, for the parts within its competence, A/7 Milan-Serravalle-Genoa, A/10 Genoa-Savona-Ventimiglia and A/12 Genoa-Rosignano. In these sections there were important reductions in lanes and speed; maximum allowed to cars with consequent discomfort due to queues, slowdowns and significant increase in travel times.
