Violent chaos in South Africa

  • The chaos in South Africa is compared to the & quot; Walking Dead & quot;
  • Here the police wander through plundered Johannesburg
  • & quot; Post-apocalyptic & quot; scenes in the chaos of South Africa

It is the largest military operation in the country since apartheid ended. The unrest has flared up after South Africa's former president Jacob Zuma was arrested and sentenced to prison for court defiance. It's Zuma's supporters who are furious at the verdict.

During his time as president, Zuma made himself known not least for his strong hatred of and incitement to murder of white people. But that is not what he was originally arrested for, the suspicions against him are instead corruption.

Here, the President of South Africa calls for the murder of whites

Over a hundred people have been killed and 2,000 arrested in the last the unrest of the day. Hundreds of shops have been looted and destroyed, not least in and around the cities of Johannesburg and Durban in the eastern part of the country. The police have had no chance against the violence and destruction.

– It looks like the highway of death if you continue down this road. Burned out car wrecks, they have looted everything, factories are on fire, shopping malls are on fire, thousands are coming to loot, a policeman tells TVC News Nigeria.

Many South Africans have armed themselves with shotguns, pistols, garden shovels, baseball bats or machetes to defend themselves and their property. The violence calmed down somewhat yesterday, but the situation is still very worrying.
