With the LAN card GC-AQC113C, which is compatible with the PCIe x4 slot on mainboards, Gigabyte has a first new model in its range that relies on a previously rarely used NIC from Marvell, the AQC113C . The adapter card uses PCI-Express 3.0 x4 as an interface and offers a LAN connection for 10 GbE networks at half the height.

New 10 -GbE-NIC from Marvell for consumer solutions

As usual, the Gigabyte Vision 10G LAN Card with the product number GC-AQC113C is fully backward compatible via the IEEE 802.3bz standard and works in a network with lower transmission rates of 5, 2.5 and 1 Gigabit/s. Compatibility is even required with the even older standards with 100 and 10 Mbit/s. However, in order to be able to fully exploit the full performance potential in the 10 GbE network, the network must be implemented using cables of the CAT6a or CAT7 standard. A CAT5e cable at the RJ45 port is sufficient for 5 Gigabit/s, provided a length of 30 m is not exceeded. Otherwise a solution according to CAT6 must be chosen.

The core of the 10 GbE model is the AQtion NIC of the new owner Marvell instead of Aquantia for data transmission with a full four lines according to PCI-Express 3.0. So far, the first generation of the 10 GbE Aquantia AQtion AQC107 chip has increasingly been used in consumer network types for retrofitting the desktop.

Aluminum cover instead of a complex cooling solution

In addition, the dimensions of the LAN card are not excessively large and can be accommodated at half the height in all common slots. According to the pictures, there is no active cooling or an expansive passive cooler. Instead, the manufacturer hides the components of the Vision 10G LAN card under an aluminum cover, which was designed in the design of the Vision product family without frills and without large openings for air circulation. These include, for example, the Vision mainboards with Intel's Z590 and AMD's B550 chipset, namely the Z590 Vision D, the Z590 Vision G and the Z590I Vision D as well as the B550 Vision D.

Price still unknown

Gigabyte has not yet published any information on the price or a date for the market launch in this country. For around 90 euros, fast 10 GbE LAN adapters with four PCIe 3.0 lanes from Asus, DeLock, TP-Link and Sonnet are available in local retail outlets, but they all rely on the older AQtion-AQC107-NIC.
