The Brave Search Beta is already live and does without user profiles.

Search engine without tracking and advertising

With the search engine Brave Search, which of course can also be used from other browsers, Brave wants to be “the first independent and alternative” to Google & amp; Co offer that “respects the privacy of the user” and should completely dispense with tracking and advertising.

Brave Search beta now available in Brave browser, offering users the first independent privacy search/browser alternative to big tech.

The creators also emphasize that no IP addresses, cookies or the like should be collected in order to personalize or improve the search results. A separate search index should also reduce the dependency on third-party providers.

The developers name the following seven principles for Brave Search:

  • Privacy: no tracking or profiling of users.
  • User-first: the user comes first, not the advertising and data industries.
  • Independence: Brave has its own search index for answering common queries privately without reliance on other providers.
  • Choice: soon, options for ad-free paid search and ad-supported search.
  • Transparency: no secret methods or algorithms to bias results, and soon, community-curated open ranking models to ensure diversity and prevent algorithmic biases and outright censorship.
  • Seamlessness: best-in-class integration between the browser and search without compromising privacy, from personalization to instant results as the user types.
  • Openness: Brave Search will soon be available to power other search engines.

Brave Search – Principles

The technology for your own search engine comes from Takeover of Tailcat, which was previously responsible for Cliqz's offers, an add-on and a browser with an integrated search engine.

Open Beta for everyone

According to Brave, around 100,000 invited users should have tested the new search engine in the closed beta. Now the Brave Search Beta is also available to the general public for testing. According to Brave, a paid version of the search engine is also conceivable later.

Another alternative to Google and Microsoft Bing, which also dispenses with tracking and advertising, is the search engine Trom.tf which emerged from the Linux distribution TROM-Jaro and the TROM project.
