Electric: only Volvo and Volkswagen in line with EU targets, the other houses lagging behind

Of all the car manufacturers active on the market, the only two that are respecting the objectives set by the European Union in terms of electrification of the range (the scope is that of the climate neutrality plan) are Volkswagen and Volvo . To reveal it & egrave; a study by Transport & amp; Environment , a non-profit organization from Brussels that promotes sustainable transport at the European level through a change in EU and global policies governing the transport sector. The report examines not only the sales data, but also the industrial strategies of the various sectors, such as the supply of batteries and the reconversion of infrastructures.

Companies like Ford Instead, they set ambitious goals that nevertheless rest on not very solid plans: T & amp; E rejects the ambitious project of the stars and stripes company to achieve the total conversion of the park by 2030, stating that within four years, in 2025, the fleet's electric vehicles will cover only 13% of its production.

The least virtuous house of all, according to the study, is; the Japanese Toyota : according to the estimates of T & amp; E, in 2025 its total production will be; made up of only 10% electric cars and its polluting hybrid technologies will still make up 44% of the brand vehicles destined for the Old Continent in 2030.

Numbers in hand, to cause concern & egrave; especially the lack of voluntary initiatives by automotive companies, an indication of low ambition and planning, together with the absence of credible industrial strategies . And here comes the specter of what happened in 2016, now five years ago, when car manufacturers have missed the shared goal of selling at least 3.6% of electric cars (thus reaching less than half of the initial target). Unfortunately, the current picture is not; less: as T & amp; E claims, electricity sales in Europe could be 10% lower than the targets set by the neutrality plans; climate of the continent by 2030.

So what would be the solution? Researchers are calling on European lawmakers to set binding CO2 emissions targets for cars over the next decade, at least -25% by 2025 and at least -40% by 2027, with electric cars which should reach 65% of total production by 2030 and with the total elimination of combustion engine cars by 2035.

As explained in the report , the invitation of lawmakers is also that of not granting incentives or concessions for those who buy hybrid and combustion vehicles, giving a further squeeze on their diffusion.
