Dynabook is expanding the Tecra A notebook series, which is primarily designed for hybrid everyday work, with two upgrade versions with 14 and 15 inch displays. The Tecra A product line, which is part of the portfolio as inexpensive business notebooks, is equipped with an 11th generation Intel CPU including an Xe GPU in the 2021 (J) series.

Two Tiger Lake are available

On the hardware side, the two Tecra A notebooks of the J series have made the biggest changes. The upgrade of the platform to Intel Tiger Lake typically includes two equipment variants, optionally with Core i5 and Core i7 with a permanent TDP of 28 watts. According to the manufacturer, the notebooks will be offered with up to 32 GB DDR4 RAM and a 1 TB SSD. The integrated Xe-GPU takes over the calculation of the image signals, an additional dedicated solution is not even offered as an option. Dynabook emphasizes a new and quiet “dual fan cooling technology”.

The Tecra A40-J has an anti-reflective 14-inch HD or FHD display with a height that is reduced to 18.9 mm compared to its predecessor. The new edition has also shrunk in length and width. Instead of 329 × 230 × 19.9 mm (L × D × H) as before, the dimensions of the 14-inch notebook are now 324 × 221 × 18.9 mm (L × D × H). Depending on the configuration, the weight should be at least 1.45 kg with a 53 Wh battery.

In addition, some Tecra A40-J variants have a selectable touchscreen; Dynabook specifies 470 cd/m² as the maximum brightness. The 15.6-inch counterpart, the Tecra A50-J, now measures 358 × 237 × 19.9 mm (L × D × H) 30 percent less than its predecessor and typically has a larger screen diagonal. The predecessor model Tecra A50-EC has a significantly larger footprint with 379 × 258 × 24 mm (L × D × H). Dynabook has also achieved weight savings of around 25 percent to a value of 1.65 kg.

Models with LTE modules will follow later

In addition to a high variety of connections with two Thunderbolt 4-capable USB Type-C connections, which also enable accelerated charging, and the connection of up to four monitors, the Tecra A40-J and Tecra A50-J should be geared towards an above-average service life be. The housings have been certified according to military standard MIL-STD-810H, which guarantees a high level of robustness through a variety of drop, temperature, humidity, vibration and shock tests. HDMI 2.0, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.2 via Type A and a MicroSD slot are available as additional interfaces. A Wi-Fi 6 module (802.11ax) from Intel can be used for a wireless connection to a network. In the course of the year, configurations with LTE modules will also be available in stores.

These include the in-house BIOS with extensive security functions, a Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM), encryption options specially designed for companies and optional authentication via fingerprint and face recognition. According to the manufacturer, the Tecra A40-J and Tecra A50-J protect users from attacks on data, the device itself and the identity of the user. This meets the requirements of the Windows 10 Secured-Core PC device class. An optional smart card reader adds another layer of security if required.
