The right chipset Z690 for Intel's new processors of the Alder Lake type is to come in the fourth quarter of this year, further mainstream variants are planned in the following three-month period. AMD's Socket AM5 could already debut in the second quarter of 2022, so it is said from Asia todayAlder Lake is coming in the fall, Intel had already revealed that much. The suitable desktop platform is led by the Z690 chipset and should be available in the fourth quarter. The schedule fits together with the semi-official information, but the product launch seems to relate to top-of-the-range models. Smaller variants, paired with chipsets such as the B660 and H610, should not follow until Q1/2022. This is also a tradition at Intel, often only one or two K models were made available in the last few years, the big momentum for the OEM business only followed weeks later.

Z790 could come less than a year later

In late summer 2022, the Z690 could be replaced by a Z790. Raptor Lake is the name of the refresh of Alder Lake, which may bring an increase in (small) cores from 8 to 16, while the large cores should remain at a maximum of eight. The result would be a 24-core processor on paper, according to the rumor mill. The extent to which this brings advantages in the desktop environment is still completely open. Independent tests of the Alder Lake CPU must first show what the hybrid design can achieve.

AM5 should be shown in the 2nd quarter of 2022

No less interesting are the statements made by the editor of Uniko & apos; s Hardware about the start of AMD's new platform based on the new AM5 socket. This could take place in the second quarter of next year, which would be much earlier and much more optimistic than previously thought.

This may mean primarily only the first deadline for mainboard manufacturers from whom such information usually comes. They want to show their first products at trade fairs such as Computex 2022, which falls during the period mentioned, while the actual product launch takes place later in the year. Such a procedure was not only the rule in the past, but also for Alder Lake mainboards this year, which was abandoned due to the quasi-canceled trade fair. Zen 4 processors like Raphael are not expected until the fourth quarter of 2022 at the earliest, and the Rembrandt APU could be a candidate in between. Currently, however, both one and the other must be enjoyed with great caution and cannot be verified.
