Borderlands 3 is getting a spin-off with dragons, skeletons and magic that takes up the idea behind an old DLC. In Tiny Tinas Wonderlands there are references to Borderlands primarily on the playful level, but a completely new fantasy world is explored.

The description of the game principle makes it clear that this is new game makes use of Borderlands without restraint: players create “multi-class heroes”, collect loot and finally have to save the world from the Dragon Lord set to music by Will Arnett. The campaign can be played by four people. The extent to which the fantasy setting also comes into play in the “loot” area is not clear from the announcement. In it, Gearbox boss Randy Pitchford speaks of “Borderlands weapons” that players will hold in their hands. Swords and magic would therefore not be in the arsenal.

Above all, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands promises to become more Borderlands. This means that the shooter stays close to its original: it is conceptually based on the Borderlands 2 DLC “Tiny Tina & apos; s Assault on Dragon Keep”. There the protagonists “play” a D&D role-playing game, which is told by the thirteen-year-old Tiny Tina, who is set to music by Ashly Burch, as the game master. Tiny Tina impresses with age-appropriate behavior and slightly insane features.

Tiny Tina is said to behave unpredictably in this Wonderlands too, because in her D&D game “rules are more of a minor matter”, reveals the announcement. That was the attraction of the old DLC. Because Tiny Tina accompanied the event as the narrator, but repeatedly turned the course of things on its head in an apparently arbitrary manner. The unusual and thus interesting narrative scenario also creates creative freedom for level design and gameplay ideas, because nothing has to be self-contained, logic is not required. Tiny Tina is also accompanied by the “idiosyncratic Captain Valentine” (Andy Samberg) and the robot Frette (Wanda Sykes), who is described as “obsessed with rules” and thus will serve as a verbal sparring partner for Tiny Tina.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands will be released in early 2022 for the PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, the PlayStation 4 and 5 as well as the Xbox One and Series consoles.
