Evolution of the graphics card: Colorful and Nvidia open the first museum for GPUs

Colorful recently moved to the New Generation Industrial Park in Shenzhen, China. In this complex, in collaboration with Nvidia, it now has the first museum on the evolution of GPUs and graphics cards from their early days Opened from 1980s to the present day. The manufacturer also exhibits rare models.

The evolution of the graphics card

Divided into different sections, Colorful shows, among other things, the first graphics cards for IBM-compatible PCs from the early 1980s. ComputerBase also dealt with the early history of graphics cards from 3dfx, ATi and Nvidia in the C: B_retro series. Colorful shows, among other things, the evolution of graphics accelerators from the very beginning up to the first GeForce 256.

In addition to Nvidia's first graphics processor, the NV1 from 1995, and the first GeForce from 1999, there are other rare “GPU treasures” to marvel at. Among other things, ATi's first dual GPU graphics card, the ATi Rage Fury MAXX, which appeared in 1999 for 600 DM with the following specifications, is on display.

In addition to Nvidia, ATi and AMD, there are also graphics cards from IBM, 3Dlabs, Intel, S3, Trident and 3dfx can be found in the “Colorful GPU Museum”. One of the rarest GPUs in the collection is the Intel i740, Intel's first and for a long time only GPU for dedicated graphics cards. With Intel Xe and the graphics cards DG1 and DG2-512, the manufacturer is daring a new foray against AMD and Nvidia.

In addition to the past, several simulators and game stations based on the GeForce RTX 3000 series also present the present and the future of the graphics card and staged accordingly. There is also a racing simulator with an 8K panorama display and VR systems.
