The plane crash occurred in the state of Kaduna in northern Nigeria. It is not known how many were on board, but according to the government, there were several high-ranking military personnel on the plane when it crashed. Atthiru was appointed army chief by President Muhammadu Buhari in January. He describes the incident as “a fatal blow to the abdomen” at a time when the military is facing major challenges in terms of security and armed conflict in the West African country.
