From the community (“Project”): The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti as a zombie conversion

A very ambitious project comes from the community, as part of which new life is breathed into a damaged GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (test). With the help of technical and craftsmanship, a PNY GeForce GTX 1080 Ti and several “donor cards” become a fully functional zombie conversion.

One GeForce GTX 1080 Ti becomes a zombie

In his extensive reader article GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: Zombie-Umbau, community member “AssassinWarlord” describes in detail how he was able to breathe new life into the damaged graphics card.

PWM controller, Ceramic capacitors and resistors were tackled with the soldering iron, and our own cooling solution and a 3D printer were also used for this extensive conversion.

During this project, the ComputerBase reader was also able to collect a lot of interesting findings about the GPU of the Pascal generation, which he conveyed in his reader's article very well.

The previous owner had cleared away a number of parts on the back of the card during a rough dismantling of the CPU cooler.

I was able to reattach many parts from donor cards, such as SMD ceramic capacitors, but I could not restore some SMD resistors and small mosfets because the PCB was only based on the reference design, but still a lot was different.

In addition to a power board of a Palit GeForce GTX 780 JetStream with 8 phases, many other parts dispensers were used. In his reader's article, the author goes into great technical detail and provides exciting insights.

The “Assassin Warlord” had already successfully donated a zombie conversion to a GeForce 6800 Ultra.

Questions and suggestions as well as praise and criticism of the reader's article in the comments to this message and in the forum are, as always, expressly desired.
