Even before its own Global Press Conference on May 27th, Acer is sending three refreshed gaming notebooks into the race as part of the Tiger Lake-H45 announcement. Predator Triton 300 and Predator Helios 300 get new CPUs and ampere graphics cards. There is also a stronger Nvidia GPU for the Nitro 5 with Intel instead of AMD.

About a year ago still presented with Comet Lake-H and Turing (Super), it is now time for the Predator Triton 300 and Predator Helios 300 to switch to Tiger Lake-H45 and Nvidia Ampere. More precisely, Acer intends to launch the Predator Triton 300 from July 2021 from 1,199 euros, the Predator Helios 300 in 15.6 inches from August from 1,299 euros and the Predator Helios 300 in 17.3 inches from July from 1,799 euros/p>

Up to Core i7-11800H with RTX 3080

The new Predator Triton 300 (PT315-53) has three 15.6-inch screens to choose from: Full HD with 144 or 360 Hz and QHD with 165 Hz. With the overdrive function, the response time should be 3 ms. In terms of hardware, the notebook can be configured with the new Intel processors up to a clock frequency of 4.6 GHz, which suggests the Core i7-11800H. Up to 32 GB DDR4 and graphics cards up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 are available.

The full metal housing with a height of 19.9 mm, which was already introduced at IFA 2019, accommodates a keyboard with 4-zone RGB lighting and provides numerous connections. This now also includes HDMI 2.1, there are also two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A, one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A, one Mini DisplayPort 1.4, one Thunderbolt 4 and one Gigabit Ethernet. A Wi-Fi 6 module including Bluetooth 5.1 from Intel is installed for wireless connections.

Acer's best-selling gaming notebook

Tiger Lake-H45 and Nvidia Ampere are also used in the Predator Helios 300. In the manufacturer's best-selling gaming notebook according to Acer, the GeForce RTX 2070 has so far represented the maximum, with the new generation (PH315-54 and PH317-55) graphics cards up to GeForce RTX 3070 can play games on either 15.6 or 17.3 Render inch display. With this notebook, too, there is a choice between Full HD with 144 or 360 Hz and QHD with 165 Hz. Alternatively, the recently introduced GeForce RTX 3050 Ti is available. Further features are up to 32 GB DDR4, HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4 as well as Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 6.

Tiger Lake-H45 for stronger graphics cards in Nitro 5

The current generation of the Nitro 5 has only been available since the beginning of this year, although the focus at CES was still on Ryzen 5000. In the absence of suitable CPUs from Intel, the current Ampere graphics cards were only offered with the more powerful AMD CPUs. Only the GeForce RTX 3060 could still be combined with the older Comet Lake-H, because the GeForce GTX 1650 represented the maximum in Tiger Lake-H35.

The RTX 3080 remains AMD exclusive

This CPU bottleneck disappears with Tiger Lake-H45, so that a combination of Intel with up to GeForce RTX 3070 is now possible with the new models AN515-57 and AN517-54. Interestingly, the GeForce RTX 3080 is reserved for AMD processors. The Nitro 5 also has up to 32 GB DDR4, displays up to QHD at 165 Hz and modern connections such as HDMI 2.1 and Thunderbolt 4. Acer also emphasizes the option of two PCIe or SATA SSDs for up to 2 TB to be installed as RAID0.

Acer will probably want the new Nitro 5 from July at prices from 1,199 euros in 15.6 inches (AN515-57) and at prices from 1,299 euros in 17.3 inches (AN517-54) in Germany.
