Apple isn't done with iOS 14 subversions just yet. Developers (and public testers) can already move on to the next beta version. iOS 14.6 will not be a super large, but also not a super small update, as can be deduced from the fact that this is a 14.x update. See what's new below.

iOS 14.6 Public Beta 2

April 30, 2021 & ndash; The third beta of iOS 14.6 is now available to developers and public testers. The build number is 18F5065a. As soon as something new is discovered, we will update this article. In the previous betas references have been found to higher sound quality for Apple Music.

At least this was discovered in the third beta:

  • Users of the AirTag and items suitable for the Find My network can now also leave an email address instead of a phone number when you activate the AirTag's Lost Mode. Currently you can only enter a phone number. In the beta of iOs 14.6 you have to choose between a phone number or e-mail address, as it is not possible to enter both.

These are the release notes from beta 1:

Software Update
New Features in iOS & amp; iPadOS 14.6 Beta – You can now directly update your iOS or iPadOS device to the latest Release Candidate without removing the beta profile. After updating to the Release Candidate, you can choose to update to the next available beta or uninstall the profile to remove your device from the beta program. (66256273)

It is now easier for beta users to download a Release Candidate without having to install all previous beta updates. This also makes it easier to exit the beta program after an official version has been released. You can upgrade to the RC build from a beta version without removing the beta profile. You can choose to stay in the beta program and receive future payments, or exit and continue with the official updates.

About iOS 14.6
iOS 14.6 is already the sixth additional update for the iPhone and iPod touch from iOS 14. Usually such interim updates bring a number of new functions. To find out more about what's new in iOS 14, read our overview of the most important functions. We expect the update to support the paid podcasts in the Podcasts app and Apple Card Family, which will allow users of the Apple Card (not in the Netherlands and Belgium) to share it with family members.

About testing beta & rsquo; s
When testing beta & rsquo; s you can often run into problems. First of all, not all functions are usually immediately available, but are added and expanded during the test period. You can also suffer from crashes or some apps may not work properly yet. So keep this in mind if you decide to test an iOS update. It is therefore not recommended to install a beta on a device that you use every day, because there can still be many problems in the beta. You can read more about issues related to iOS 14 betas in our separate article.
