Domestic. Following the introduction of the tax on plastic carrier bags, sales of tax-free plastic waste bags have exploded. Imports of fossil-based waste bags from China are increasing, reports SVT Nyheter.

– We have stopped using fossil-free plastic bags and instead import fossil-based bags from China that are not covered by the plastic tax, says Lars Eriksson, professor of industrial design at Jönköping University, to SVT.
With the new tax, a plastic carrier bag costs around seven kronor. At the same time, it is possible to buy a whole roll of waste bags, which are not covered by the tax, for about SEK 20.
Coop, for example, has seen an increase in sales of waste bags by about 70 percent in the past year.
