The king of Bavaria, Ludwig II ordered Neuschwanstein castle as his sanctuary building – quiet it is not here but a long time ago. Each year, 1.5 million visitors will visit the castle of the fairy tale. A visit with panoramic views.

Shortly after Ludwig was crowned with just 18 years to the king, he had the castle of Neuschwanstein as an idealized knight’s castle, based in Munich building, away from the hustle and government. It should be like an inhabitable theatrical setting. But in the end he spent only 172 days in the castle. For the construction he was in debt heavily. A few weeks after his death in 1886 the castle was opened to the Public. With the entry fee of the debt could be paid back quickly.

Follow DW-reporter Elisabeth Yorck von wartenburg on a tour through the castle. Thanks to the 360°camera, you can look around on all sides.
