Spain’s Ex-Skistar Blanca Fernandez Ochoa, found dead

Spain mourns the death of Blanca Fernandez Ochoa. After a long search, the former ski racer, was found on the summit of a mountain near Madrid, is dead.

Since eleven days missing former Spanish Alpine skier Blanca Fernandez Ochoa has been found in a mountain range close to Madrid, dead. The body of 56-year-old Olympic medal winner had been discovered at the 1945 metre-high summit of La Peñota, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, reported the Spanish newspaper “El Pais”, citing police sources. The cause of death is still unclear.

The search for the former sports star had been in Spain since the days headlines. Hundreds of emergency workers – including police officers with search dogs, civil guards and volunteers had scoured the area for Hiking. The last drone had been used in the partially inaccessible area. On Sunday, the car of the former Alpine skier, had been found in a Parking lot, one of the many Hiking trails starting. Fernandez Ochoa had informed her family that she wanted to go for five days in the mountains Hiking. When she was not returned, and had beaten the family Alarm.

Bronze at the Games in Albertville

“She has written for our sports history and a lot to us to leave early,” wrote Albert Rivera, the head of the liberal party “Ciudadanos” on Twitter.

Blanca Fernandez Ochoa won at the 1992 winter Olympics in Albertville in France, Bronze in the Slalom. It was competitions, the second and to date last Olympic medal for Spain in the Alpine. The first had won in 1972 Sappora in Japan, her brother, Francisco Fernandez Ochoa’s Gold in the Slalom. He died in 2006 of cancer at the age of 56, just as now his sister.
