The Actress Florence Kasumba

Florence Kasumba was born in Uganda, grew up in Germany and lives in Berlin. In the Netherlands, she studied dance, singing and acting. Then, she acted in numerous Musicals such as, for example, “the lion king”, “Cats” and “West Side Story” on European stages. In addition, she has played various roles in the German Film and television. In recent years she has appeared in several comic adaptations from Hollywood (including “The First Avengers: Civil war”, “wonder woman” and “Black Panther”). In Germany, she is from the age of 18. To see October in the series “Germany, 86”, and 2019 as the new “Tatort” -Anaïs Schmitz.

Mrs. Kasumba, how did you come to Hollywood?

I hear the question quite often, and for me, it feels so weird. Of course, this is a Blockbuster, a Hollywood film, but I’m here in Germany and got my first Hollywood movie “The First Avengers: Civil war is allowed to rotate” in Berlin. For “Black Panther” we had to, of course, all to Atlanta, where the largest part of the film was taken. This was my first longer stay abroad for such a big production.

For me, it is quite good at that I’m shooting these movies and also a nice home in my world. Easy, because you can relax properly, and also the life here is different. With less Paparazzi and I can do what I want. So I’m here to just beautiful with the U-Bahn and nobody talked to me. (laughs)

While shooting the comic book adaptation of “Black Panther” came to Florence Kasumba your Kung-Fu skills to the benefit of

It makes a difference whether you are working in Germany or in Hollywood?

For my preparation it makes no difference. I always check my figures and if I have questions, I can provide the. Otherwise, I’ve made it in Hollywood, often the experience: If you had a larger Budget, then one has prepared us much earlier flown in to us really on these roles. That is, the Training is much longer than here, where it is assumed that you have to work for now. You come in, this is now the choreography and then do it. I can do both, but I find it nicer when I have a bit more time.

In the case of “Black Panther”, there is no Showdown at the end. The scene is, I believe, is 16 minutes. Since we have rotated a month ago, this is incredibly long. In a month I’m in Germany, Yes in part, a whole movie. But there has the money to say: We can take the time we can shoot a scene in two weeks, the doesn’t have to happen all in one day. The difference for me is the main.

How have you experienced the filming of “Black Panther”, what was special for you?

It is, of course, especially if you are allowed to play in such a huge Film. The people who were involved, had a lot of respect for it and have worked very hard. I have made the experience that it is very fast on the outside. That is, if you go to work and you don’t work immediately, then one can replace you, too. I know from the Musical, where we are often busy, when we do a Show. That is, if I fly from the stage, then the Show still goes on.

But in the Film I didn’t know that, because in Germany a smaller Budget. Since you can’t rotate a week, and afterwards say, “Oh, no, it was still the wrong Person”. You can do this there but. We had in the United States, Nachdrehs. Then the entire Ensemble is just flown in, we turn for three days and the colleagues also come from everywhere. I have experienced in Germany. Here I was able to leave me so far, always on it: If the production says, we turn to Sunday, then I was able to travel on Monday in holiday. You can’t be there.

Florence Kasumba played in seven of the crime scenes. In 2019 you will be together with Maria Furtwängler (r.), for the first time as a Commissioner to

In the coming year, you will be to see to the side of Maria Furtwängler in the göttingen “crime scene”. It is Special for you to play now a Commissioner?

In any case. The “crime scene” we have looked earlier at home. As I then turned, in 2005, my first “crime scene” – after I had worked a long time in Musicals – that’s when I realized: Wow, I like that actually. And then, in 2010, I think I turned three “crime scenes” and noticed that I found the films and the work of colleagues. And then I simply shot at some point this desire into the universe, I would like to change the scene of the crime Commissioner. I must now determine is something Special for me, because I’m not even sure that this was such an easy decision.

You have previously played in the “crime scene” with other roles, smaller roles. They were Suspected, sometimes guilty, and their roles often had a migration background. How is it for you now, to play the role of Anaïs Schmitz?

For my work here in Germany, I am pleased. On the stage I have, of course, have always played any of the roles, and since it has played no role in how I look or where I come from. But I know: The first film jobs I’ve done, since I was re-dubbed, in part. As it was said: If someone looks like you, then it is disturbing that this Person speaks so good English. I understood at the time, never, because I’ve always thought: man, I’m grew up here and I know so many people who are now my age, living in the second Generation here and the simply reasonable to speak German.

I am glad that you go in Germany now, in a different direction, doing a lot of scary. If I wish for now, time to play the girlfriend-next-door, just a normal role that was abroad, never an issue. But that comes slowly and because everything is still open. And I hope that you can see in the TV and more diversity. That people dare to occupy a Person with a headscarf or a Black or someone with a disability, without that something needs to be explained. Simply because of this kind of Person also normal in our lives.

You see yourself as a role model for others?

As a “Black Panther” came out, of course, have seen many young people in the Film with black actors in positive roles to play and, so to speak, be role models. That’s really important that you see that you can also be, for example, with my Look successfully. This is for me at the Moment, the Message to say “you have to stay true to yourself”. Of course you need a lot of patience and it’s not from today to tomorrow, but you must not give up. And the more you show different types, the easier it is to understand for people: Oh, ok, now this is today and this is the normal image, what we have here in reality. And why not on TV?
