With a narrow defeat against Canada, the German ice hockey Team in the quarter-finals of the home left world Cup. The English-Canadians, Brooks Macek moves in the DW-Interview, however, a positive result of the Tournament.

DW: Brooks Macek, your Team really gave everything, but Canada dominated the game in the end. The Canadians are just a little bit better and faster?

Macek: in The end it was only 2:1, we were so close. It was missing one gate to compensate. Clearly the Canadians are a great Team, but I think we were tonight.

You have played in this tournament against some top teams. Germany won against the USA, but against Sweden and Russia, and now in the quarter-finals against Canada lost. These four Teams are on a level, or the Canadians, maybe a Tick higher?

All the teams we have played in this tournament were tough. You can take only our games against Slovakia and Denmark in the preliminary round, which also went into overtime. All teams start in this tournament are good. It is a close competition. Even tonight, just a gate between victory and defeat.

You come from Winnipeg, her father is from a place not far from today’s venue in Cologne, Germany. How does it feel for you, born and raised in Canada, to play against in this country?

It is an interesting experience. You have to go to such an important game as every other hockey game, just try to give everything. Sure, you tried this thing to hide.

It was for you as a special incentive to play for your country of choice, against the country of their birth?

Sure, I would have beaten really like, but they are a very strong team. It was a tough game. I think we have sold expensive and also so impressed with how we played as a team.

Brooks (r.) shot at the world Cup two goals: one against Denmark, one against Russia

You have shot during the tournament, some of the gates. How would you rate the world Cup for themselves personally and for the German Team?

I think we have played well. It must not be forgotten, that has hurt Tobias Rieder early. And then goalie Thomas Greiss was also. It was not easy for us, we had to fight through. And I think we have done well. With my own performance, I am satisfied, on the boys, I’m really proud of that.

Federal trainer Marco Sturm has called you at the Germany-Cup 2015 for the first time in the German Team. It goes out from under him with the German ice-hockey upside?

Yes, for sure. He is a coach who can get carried away with his players, he has played a long time at the highest level. He has a good relationship with the players, the guys respect him. It is a great experience to play under him. I can only say Good things about him.
