DJ Robert Miles is dead

With his Hit “Children”, he managed his international breakthrough. After a serious illness in the House-DJ and music died-producer now at the age of 47 years.

He had died Tuesday night of his serious cancer disease, was confirmed on Wednesday, a spokesman of Robert Miles’ to the Radio “Openlab” the death of the famous House DJs. “We say farewell with a heavy heart,” it said in a message on the Facebook page. “Robert, last night, peacefully asleep. He was always strong, determined, incredibly brave and has done everything he could to fight against this horrific disease,” it said. Miles, whose name was actually Roberto Concina, was born in 1969 in Switzerland as son of Italian immigrants. His family declined, however, soon returned to Italy, where Miles grew up. Most recently, he lived on the Spanish Balearic island of Ibiza.

Breakthrough with “Children”

Miles experimented early on with electronic music and developed his own Beats and melodies in the Studio or on the Computer. In Italian Discos and radio broadcasts, he put “Ambient” and “Drum and Bass” music styles which were only to a small audience. After moving to London, he turned increasingly to a dreamy Trance Sound, which was later referred to as the “Dreamhouse”.

With his debut Single “Children” managed to Miles in 1995, his international breakthrough. The title sold five million copies and spent 13 weeks at number one on the Euro-Top-100-Charts. His Album “Dreamland” in 1996 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, the Top Ten of the album charts. In 21 countries got a “Dreamland” for its enormous sale 12 numbers in total, the Golden, and 16 Times the platinum record. In 1997, Miles was awarded as the best international Newcomer with a “Brit Award”.

By the end of the 1990s, however, it was again quiet for Miles. He started to work increasingly as a composer, producer and radio makers. His Ibiza-based radio station, “Openlab” he had founded in 2013.
