Dell Alienwares compact ‘pc-console’ Alpha at the end of december for 529 euro

Dell Alienware want for christmas are consoleachtige desktop Alpha in the Benelux release. The most simple implementation of the gaming system with Windows 8.1 and Steam Big Picture is 529 euros in costs.

“We strive to make the Alienware Alpha here for christmas,” says Alienware-brand Hendrik Berkhof against Tweakers. The group provides the system including Xbox controller from Microsoft. The Alienware Alpha is a compact gaming system with dimensions of approximately 200x200x50mm and the weight is 1.5 kilos. This makes the system smaller and lighter than the new generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony. “It is similar to a Wii U from Nintendo,” said Berkhof.

Dell Alienware set the Alpha explicitly compared to the PS4 and the Xbox One. In addition to the size is the advantage, according to the brand manager that users own hardware components can be replaced. “You can be on the bottom four normal screws to remove, and then, for example, memory and storage to change.” Need only two elements with fans to be disconnected. The graphics card is not to replace: that is stuck on to the motherboard and would by Nvidia specifically for the Dell developed. The performance would compare well with that of the GeForce GTX 860M.

As a user the system boots into Steam Big Picture interface, if there is a controller connected. There is the choice between Windows 8.1 and the console mode when you connect the mouse and keyboard.

Originally wanted a Dell system equipped with Valve’s Steam OS, but that os is delayed. As soon as the Linux-based operating system comes out, brings Dell the Alpha also with Steam OS and its Steam controller.

The basic version of the Alpha includes a Core i3, 4GB memory and a 500GB hard disk. This model goes in the Benelux 529 euros in costs. There are also variants with a Core i5, Core i7 and more working and storage memory. The Alpha contains a further two usb 2.0 ports on the front, two usb 3.0 connectors on the back, a gigabit ethernet port, hdmi-in and-out and a toslink optical audio jack. At the bottom is a slot with a usb 2.0 connection for example a bluetooth dongle. By default, the wireless network card with the cheapest model, a dual-band 1×1 802.11 ac version, but users would themselves be able to upgrade.
