Microsoft has released four updates for Windows 8.1 withdrawn. The patches were in some cases cause Windows 8.1 after installation refused to start. Microsoft has instructions online which possible work-arounds are described.

The deleted updates and download links concern KB2982791, KB2970228, KB2975719 and KB2975331. In particular, the KB2982791 and KB2975719 updates caused a lot of ignition problems on many Windows 8.1 systems. On a support forum of Microsoft, it rained last week, complaints about the updates. Windows users were mostly to do with so-called stop errors after the patches were installed through Windows Update.

Microsoft recognizes that the problem sometimes difficult to solve, but the company still has a number of work-arounds on its website that not-start-Windows-systems may have to work again. It is further recommended that the appropriate updates to remove. It is unclear how the problematic patches through Microsoft’s testing procedures are rolled.
