Honeywell introduces smart thermostat

Honeywell smart thermostat announced with the product name Lyric. The device relies heavily on the link with a smartphone by means of geofencing. Main competitor is the Nest thermostat from Google.

While the smart-Nest-thermostat according to the manufacturer, self-learning algorithms to be heating as efficiently as possible, used the Lyric the smartphone of the residents as a starting point. This is geofencing applied, a mechanism whereby, on the basis of the location information of a smartphone can be determined whether the user is indoors or outdoors. So can the heating be turned off if a resident leaves or already be enabled if the user is very close to come. Also an air conditioning can be controlled.

Honeywell claims that the Lyric is compatible with the mobile operating systems iOS and Android, and those apps can be various preference settings are stored. Also inform the manufacturer that the software of the thermostat can handle the sometimes unpredictable behaviour of various family members. If there is maintenance to the heating system or air conditioning is necessary, the Lyric display a warning message.

The Lyric appears with its rounded design on the Nest. The central display shows, amongst other things, the forecasts for the next twelve hours, and by the presence of a proximity sensor, the display will only light up if there is someone in the neighborhood. As soon as the Lyric the temperature above cut-out, an orange glow shown, while blue indicates that there is cooling. A green tint indicates a power saver. The Lyric get in the US a price of 279 dollars and comes in August on the market. The introduction in Europe will in the second half of 2015 will take place.
