Unreal Engine 4.1 brings this month, support for Linux and SteamOS

Developer Epic Games adds later in april, support for Linux and SteamOS to version 4 of the Unreal Engine. The company follows this, among others, the German competitor Crytek, that at the beginning of march Linux support announced for the CryEngine.

On the Unreal Engine blog writes Mike Fricker, technical director at Epic Games, that version 4.1 of Unreal Engine support for running and packaging games for Linux and SteamOS. Until the update is actually released, users can via GitHub a preview build of Unreal Engine 4.1 try. For that build, however, is a UE4 subscription required and the user must be logged in on GitHub.

In addition to Linux support, adds Epic new templates, a scene outliner folder system, an undo history window, debug histogram, and more. When the update for the Unreal Engine exactly true, is not known. Already demonstrated to Epic Unreal Engine 4 in Mozilla Firefox, and reduced the company’s rates for the use of the engine and associated tools.
