Provider cancels release first Samsung phone with Tizen

The Japanese provider NTT Docomo, which is the first phone with Samsungs own operating system, Tizen would launch, the phone in question is cancelled. The market is according to the provider ‘not big enough’ for a new operating system.

The release of the Tizen smartphone has been ‘indefinitely’ postponed, let the Japanese provider know to business newspaper The Wall Street Journal. The provider claims that the smartphone market is not fast enough growing to make room for yet another operating system for smartphones. NTT Docomo sold always been a lot of Android devices and has since a few months, iPhones included in the range.

The cancellation is a setback for Samsung, which, together with Intel, the Linux-based operating system Tizen in the market. Tizen is an amalgamation of Samsung’s own phone OS, Bada and MeeGo, the operating system of Intel and Nokia. There was never a phone with MeeGo on the market, though the Nokia N9 is compatible with elements of MeeGo.

According to a well established source, Samsung has already billions of euros invested in the development of Tizen. The South Korean manufacturer will see the operating system as a way for future smartphones, cameras, tvs, and home automation to seamlessly work together. Because among others, Vodafone and T-Mobile will also be collaborating with Samsung on Tizen, there is always the chance that through those providers a smartphone with the operating system on the market, but there are no rumors or indications that a release of a Tizens smartphone there is.
