Dell has under the code name Sputnik 3 to Ubuntu running XPS 13 Developer Edition ultrabook refreshed. The laptops have full hd 13,3″touch screens and energy-efficient Intel Haswell processors.
Dell released the second Developer Edition version of the XPS 13, running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed along with some developertools, at the beginning of this year on the Dutch market. Meanwhile, Dell has under the code name Sputnik 3, an updated version of the XPS 13 Developer Edition announced. The Sputnik 3 provides a full hd 13,3″touchscreen, while the previous versions even without touchscreenfunctionaliteit need to do. Standard is 8GB of ram available. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS remains the default operating system.
The updated XPS 13 Developer Edition models are equipped with energy-efficient Haswell cpus from Intel. Dell offers two variants: a version with a Core i5 4200U processor, with a maximum clock speed of 2.6 GHz, and a Sputnik 3-model with a Core i7 4500U cpu, which has a top speed know of 3GHz. Both laptops, 1.4 kg, exploiting the gpu capabilities of the Haswell processor in the form of Intel HD Graphics 4400. Furthermore, 802.11 ac wi-fi and bluetooth 4.0 present.
The XPS 13 model with the Core i5 processor will cost in the USA us $ 1,250 and comes with a 128GB ssd, while the 1549 dollar Core i7 version with a 256GB ssd. Dell reports that the Developer Edition ultrabooks at the end of this month in the Netherlands will be available. In Belgium, the Sputnik 3 laptops in december available.
