There will soon come roms based on Android 4.4 with updated gpu drivers from Texas Instruments. That appears on the forum of XDA-Developers. The support from Google is stopped, but TI introduced nevertheless new drivers are available.

Already there are Android 4.4 roms for the Galaxy Nexus from 2011, but that contain all the graphical issues in, for example, rotate the screen, so the user experience is far from optimal. Creators of custom roms promise, therefore, soon with updates to the issues to resolve, such as Carlos_Manuel of the Dreams-custom rom.

That fix is possible, because a developer with knowledge of Texas Instruments and gpu maker Imagination is a update for the gpu drivers has put online. This update is still not used by Google in the Android 4.3 rom for the Galaxy Nexus and fixt the issues on Android 4.4.

Google reported last week to know Android 4.4 despite the focus on devices with less powerful processors and less memory, not for the Galaxy Nexus. Google says one and a half years of support to deliver on devices. A lot of people buy just Nexus devices because of the support of Google and the quick updates, but Google has not yet said when the Galaxy Nexus updates would be received.

The Galaxy Nexus came out in november 2011 and was one of the first phones with 720p screen and the first with Android 4.0. The smartphone has an Omap4460-soc from Texas Instruments on board, with a PowerVR SGX540 gpu from Imagination.
