The racing team of the TU Delft has with one of his electric cars the world record for acceleration improved. The team knew the light electric car sufficient to adjust to within 2,15 seconds from zero to hundred acceleration.

The DUT Racing Team, active since 2000 in the sport and in 2011 switched to electric vehicles, drove the versnellingsrecord with the car of last year. The 24-year-old Marly Kuijpers, the team undertook the attempt. The team is home-made, four-wheel drive electric truck was on the tarmac of the airport Valkenburg put and put Friday afternoon in the record time of 2.15 seconds for the acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour. Making it the fastest accelererende electric car in the world, and also faster than almost all other ‘normal’ cars.

For the record, it was the car of the team from 2012, the DUT12, adapted to give a high acceleration to achieve. So was the car of an already meager 145 kilograms something lighter. In addition, the four electric motors to be adjusted: the boundary of a joint power of 114pk was removed, allowing the full 135pk became available. Also the tires were, just like in the Formula 1, pre-heated in a special, from an old oil drum made oven as much as possible grip. That everything turned out to be more than enough to make the old record of 2,68 seconds to break and set a new record in 2,15 seconds to convert.

The DUT12 is equipped with four AMK DT5-12-10 electric motors, each with 3.7 kilograms of each of 24kW or over 32pk with a maximum torque of 21Nm. The motors are powered by lipo batteries with a capacity of 4,2 kWh and a voltage of 600V. The car has a wheelbase of just 1530 mm and a width of 1200mm. The bodywork is of carbon fiber and aluminum.

For regular races in the Formula Student, in which the team normally drive, are the additional measures that the team did not allowed. The power is limited to 114pk and tires may not be warmed up. The DUT Racing Team won it previously with the DUT12, the Formula Student Germany championship in Hockenheim, seen by many as the world CHAMPIONSHIPS for that class.
