In early testbuilds of Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander, are the long-promised Smart Scopes become visible. The current version contains a small fifty so-called scopes, and the end user must be a more powerful and more versatile Dash to offer.

Smart Scopes are integrated with the Dash, the menu that works on the basis of the entered keywords. The Dash will try the consult of a Canonical server on the basis of the entered term to the relevant scopes automatically select. The user can, of course, the desired scopes click. A large part of the available scopes come with Dash Previews, so that the Dash environment do not leave need to be.

Originally wanted Canonical to the Smart Scopes in Ubuntu 13.04, but this aim was not met. Now diving in pre-alpha builds of Ubuntu 13.10, the first visible implementations of the Smart Scopes-concept, writes OmgUbuntu.

In total, Smart Scopes use a small fifty scopes, which are often related to internet services or certain Linux programs. Examples are notes from the TomBoy application, entries on Wikipedia, and files that are stored on Google Drive. By making use of so-called modifiers, can directly with the desired scope to be searched. For example, the entry ‘wiki:paris’ direct information about the French capital in Wikipedia.

Although there is still some improvement to be done on the Smart Scopes, it seems that the implementation of the search in Ubuntu 13.10, in October, that must come true, almost certainly. Users of Ubuntu 13.04 may be the Smart Scopes also try to make use of a ppa.
