“Nokia stops production of Symbian phones’

Nokia stops this summer with the production of phones with its own Symbian operating system. After this summer, there are probably still stocks sold, for example, Nokia’s last Symbian device, the 808 PureView with 41-megapixel camera.

Especially in some Asian countries will after this summer, inventories will be sold, writes the Financial Times. The specialist site AllAboutSymbian, that many sources within Nokia, calls the period referred to in paragraph ‘about right’. Thus ends the production of Symbians nearly 2.5 years after the announcement that Nokia has switched to Windows Phone for smartphones. Nokia managing director Stephen Elop announced in February 2011.

If the production stops, will Nokia almost a half a billion Symbian devices sold, according to Tweakers earlier. That there are more than the amount of iPhones that have up to now been sold: around 350 million. Is Android Symbian already surpassed; the number of activated Androids reaches probably within a few months a billion.

The last Symbian phone that in Dutch shops came to lie, is the 808 PureView, with 41 megapixel camera. According to rumors will soon come a Windows Phone device with the same camera.
