Unknown attackers have compromised the supportservers of cPanel, software that hosting providers used to have multiple websites on the same server host. Who is helped by the support team, should the password change.

CPanel has been no statement issued about the attack; the company brings the attack to light in an e-mail to customers who in the past six months have contacted the support department and received by tweaker Punked24. In the mail writes cPanel that one of the servers, the support is cracked. An employee of cPanel confirms the legitimacy of the email on the official support forum.

The precise size of the attack is not clear, but the company recommends users to their rootwachtwoorden to change if that are used by the support department. “We still do not know all of the attack, so we ask our customers to take immediate action,” writes the security team of cPanel. Users instead of passwords, cryptographic keys used to log in to ssh, there is no need to take action.

The news comes at the time that a rootkit is the round that focuses on Cent OS and Cloud Linux systems where cPanel is installed on. Or a something to do with the other, is unknown. CPanel is software that is used by hosting providers for multiple websites on the same server host. Similar software packages are Plesk, DirectAdmin and Ensim.
