The market share of Windows Phone in the last quarter of 2012 for the first time in years increased. Where at the end of 2011 but 1.8 percent of the sold smartphones on Microsoft’s operating system turned, was that at the end of 2012 increased to 3 percent.

The increase of the market share of Windows Phone is presumably due to the release of new devices with Windows Phone 8 and offers around devices with the older Windows Phone 7.5. It is the first time that the market share of Microsoft’s mobile operating system in the important last quarter rises.

With the increase is Microsoft still a long way off, the market share that it has ever had. Around 2008 was Microsoft, thanks to devices such as the HTC Touch Diamond and Sony ericsson Xperia X1 around a market share of 10 percent.

Android reinforced, according to Gartner, its position as market leader. Almost 70 percent of the worldwide sold smartphones running on Android, while that a year ago, slightly more than 50 percent. The market share of iPhones ran according to Gartner, is back from 23 to 20 percent. Gartner estimates that Apple 43.4 million smartphones sold, but Apple reported themselves 47.8 million delivered iPhones. That is a big difference between, by the factory, the phones and the estimated sales.

BlackBerry is still the third platform, with a market share of 3.5 percent. Samsung’s Bada and Nokia’s Symbian fluctuate around 1 percent. The number of sold smartphones rose by more than a quarter to 207 million copies in three months, for example, estimates Gartner.
