According to Smedly, the company has nothing to announce at its SOE Live event for PlanetSide, but the game will keep running and soon to be free-to-play. PlanetSide was released in may 2003 and was marketed as a mmo-fps.
Sony Online Entertainment is working on the successor to PlanetSide 2, which on a still unknown date before the end of 2012. The successor will also be free to play, with SOE money in to the game with the sale of additional weapons and cosmetic upgrades. It is likely that the first part is not free to play will be for the release of his successor.
