Hyundai wants between next december and 2015 a total of a thousand hydrogen cars for the European market produce. It comes to a custom ix35, with a range of 588km on a tank capacity of 5.6 kg of hydrogen.

Hyundai made the plans for the production of thousands of hybrid ix35 FCEV cars on hydrogen for the European market, known officially at the Paris motor show, but the news had recently been drained. The fuel cell technology has, according to Hyundai’s top priority, and in Denmark and Sweden would be Hyundai, which is also the brand Kia, already leases for the clean hybrid ended have. After the initial production of a thousand cars expected Hyundai, after 2015, another 10,000 of such vehicles to produce for Europe.

The Hyundai ix35 FCEV, which stands for Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, is powered by a 100kW electric motor, this power involves a hydrogen fuel cell. For the driving and hard acceleration the fuel cell is assisted by a 21kW-li-po-battery. It is also recharged by the fuel cell.

The tank, with a pressure of 700bar, amounted to 5.6 kg of hydrogen, and Hyundai gives for his hybrid ‘cross-over’ a range of 588km. The car accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in 12.5 s and has a maximum speed of 160km/hour.

Hyundai wants with the series production of the ix35 FCEV, the cost of production of the car has halved to around 44.700 dollar, as is read in the Mercury News. The expected selling price will likely be approximately 88.000 dollar amounts.

Not only the cost will be for many a barrier for purchase, but also the number of pumping stations where hydrogen refuelling can be. Currently in the Netherlands there are only two places where hydrogen refuelling can be, but under more Ballast Nedam IPM is working on the development of mobile filling stations for hydrogen.
