AMD launches Trinity apus for the desktop

AMD has six apus of the new Trinity generation for desktops announced. The apus are 32nm produced and have better cpu and, especially, better gpu performance than the current Llano-apus with a lower power consumption.

AMD introduced the Trinity apu’s for laptops earlier this year, but the wait was on the desktop versions. That are now in the pipeline, though the actual introduction next Monday. The chipbedrijf has the specifications of the new generation is already published.

The Trinity’s are the Llano-apus with type designation A4, A6 and A8, and the new A10, but they are just like those chips are still on 32nm produced. The architecture of the cpu cores is, however, quite a kick; the K10 cores of Llano to have to abandon the field and AMD now uses Piledriver cores, built around the improved Bulldozer architecture. The new line-up consists of four quadcores and two dualcores.

Also the gpu part of the apu has a huge upgrade. The gpu is a mix of the Radeon HD 6000 – and 7000-generation, and AMD provides the most powerful Trinity apu 384 graphics cores with a clock speed of 800MHz. The purpose of the company is also an alternative for Ivy Bridge to offer, that is significantly better on the graphics plane performs than previous processorgeneraties.

The A10-, A8-, A6 – and A4 apus of the Trinity-generation take a seat on the new FM2 socket. Llano-apus can do so at the upcoming AMD motherboards be pricked. The socket will be in combinations with the A55 chipset for the instapmarkt, the A75 chipset for the ‘entertainment’platform and the new A85X chipset for the high-end. The latter offers, among other eight sata600 interfaces and four usb 3.0 connectors.

Although it still have to wait on the extensive benchmarks of the cpu-share, makes AnandTech the gpu benchmarks on the Radeon part of the fastest Trinity 16 percent faster than that of Llano, with an increase of consumption by 7 percent. The performance come roughly corresponds to that of a Radeon HD 5570. If the price is indeed close to that of a Core i3 and the cpu performance is not too much disappointing, AMD is an interesting option for builders of core systems on which also still a game can be played.
