Sony at its IFA press conference to its new NEX-5R announced. This camera has a new image sensor with focusing points and is equipped with wi-fi. Also has the NEX-5R more direct controls.
New is the image sensor used. Given the number of 16.1 megapixels and iso range of iso 100-25.600 seems to be the same as that of its predecessor, but on this new sensor, 99 af points processed. First is with these points using phase-detection af quickly the distance to a subject, and then with contrast detection the initial focus is improved.
The operation of this ‘Fast Hybrid AF’system is very reminiscent to that of the EOS M milc from Canon, but in contrast to the af system of the EOS M and the NEX-5R in the Speed Priority mode is also exclusive of phase-detection-af use, for example, for fast moving subjects. In that mode, the camera can capture up to ten frames per seconds to record. The Nikon 1 series of Nikon, incidentally, was the first with af points on the sensor are integrated.
It is the first time that Sony’s NEX-series has feature of wi-fi support. This can, according to Sony used to include photos and videos via a wi-fi home network to share, but with the help of wi-fi, the NEX-5R also directly, wirelessly connected with, for example, a tv.
The built-in functionality of the camera is expandable via so-called PlayMemories Camera Apps. Sony offers with the introduction of this downloaddienst for camera apps include Picture Effect+, Bracket Pro and Multi Frame NR, but extending this range in the future with the apps such as Photo Retouch, Time Lapse and Cinematic Photo.
The new NEX-5R will be in October in the colors black and white are available, for a suggested retail price of 750 euros, includes 18-55mm-kit lens.
