Google connect patentdeal with Rovi electronic program guide

Google is probably going to be the technology of the company Rovi to use for an electronic program guide to use for the new tv service that Google via its own fibre optic network in the U.s. city of Kansas City offers.

The license agreement, presumably for the new glasvezeldienst Google Fiber, contains the patentenportfolio of Rovi’s epg technology for set-top boxes, mobile platforms and online use, according to Rovi. The license agreement is for multiple years, signed. About the exact interpretation of the license agreement of Google and Rovi is not clear. The American company employs more than 5,200 patents.

Google Fiber recently went from start with their own internet and tv services. At this moment the service is only active in the American city of Kansas City. Google Fiber provides a large number of tv channels broadcast in full hd, and a fiber optic connection of 1Gbps. It is not yet known whether or not the service eventually also in other parts of America or in Europe. However, Google announced at the end of 2011 to a private fibre optic network to want to roll out in Europe.
