The Us telecom operator Verizon Wireless should be no tethering apps for phones more block. That the Federal Communications Commission decided. The blockade, which since 2011 is in force, must be eliminated.

In 2011 blocked a number of major carriers in the United States, tethering apps from the Android Market, now Play Store is called. The blockade would be used as the providers more money would like to see consumers who wish to make use of tethering. Verizon offers a tethering plan of $ 20 per month. Consumers could this cost, however, work around one of the many, mostly free, tethering apps from the Android market to download.

The FCC let us know that “meet the requirements of the FCC” is not optional. According to the American telecomwaakhond is ‘openness of the network and applications’ a kernvoorwaarde to obtain the 700MHz spectrum. “The steps that have been taken will not only protecting consumers, but also to provide security for ‘innovative developers’. They can now continue with the development of new apps, without fear that they will be blocked,” said Julius Genachowski, chairman of the FCC.

Other providers that tethering block, this may provisionally continue to do so. Verizon has joined the frequentieveiling in 2008 for the 700MHz band tied to conditions that the blocking of tethering ban, argues the FCC. It is not yet clear whether the FCC will soon also take a decision concerning the blocking of tethering by other providers.

The American carrier will get through the judgment to contend with a number of additional conditions. All future communication between Verizon and app stores over the availability of apps is now pre-screened by a lawyer and should also be employees of Verizon training so that they are aware of the current rules. The telecom provider is also required to for a period of two years for the FCC to inform if the rules are not complied with.

The FCC wants net neutrality to enter in the United States. Verizon is one of the biggest opponents of this plan, and is a lawsuit started against the American telecomwaakhond. In a blog post let Verizon know then that they are “fully committed to an open internet’. They see the introduction of net neutrality as “the imposition of unnecessary rules’. “We are of the opinion that the FCC does not have jurisdiction net neutrality to enter and that this ensures that uncertainty will arise for the telecom industry, for the consumer,” said Verizon.
