Dropbox investigates possible leak after the spam users

Dropbox users get since Tuesday spam on email addresses used only for Dropbox account, also in the Netherlands. The webopslagdienst examine the case because the presence of a leak is suspected.

Dropbox, which last year wrestled with a vulnerability, confirms that users of spam get e-mail accounts of his service. “It is our top priority to this case to examine it thoroughly and to you as soon as possible to inform of the findings,” says the company in a statement, opposite Geek.com.

The case came to the roles when users complained on the forum of Dropbox. The topic is a notification of a Dutch-language spam e-mail, sent to a user with a .en-address. Users suspect a leak, because some of the e-mail addresses only used for Dropbox account, giving the spammers the data from the database from Dropbox or from the user’s pc must have. It is unclear as to whether Dropbox itself was hacked, or that, for example, a weakness lies in the communication between client and server, making the e-mail address can be intercepted.
