Dell starts this autumn sale XPS 13 with Ubuntu

Dell has after a trial period of four months decided to from the fall a XPS 13 ultrabook with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS to sell. The manufacturer claims thousands of request developers from all over the world.

Dell claims that Project Sputnik, such as the project of the Ubuntu XPS 13 is called, so well received that we decided to pilot a product to convert. The manufacturer says thousands of requests to have received, and now to see how these best can be dealt with.

With the Ubuntu-ultrabook point Dell is specifically at developers. The user can choose, for example, for certain profiles, such as Android, Ruby or Javascript, and then from a GitHub repository, the necessary software will be downloaded. The manufacturer put the long term support version of Ubuntu 12.04 on the laptop. Dell and Canonical have worked together to make all the hardware of the XPS 13 under Ubuntu working.

In the past, Dell has already a number of notebooks with Ubuntu, but that were consumer-focused. The manufacturer is experimenting for years with the use of Linux, after from online survey found that users with large distance wanted. Not yet known when the sale exactly starts, what the ultrabook is going to cost and that it is in the Netherlands, will go on sale.
