LG starts selling quad-core smartphone Optimus 4X HD

LG has started sales of its first Android-smartphone with quadcore processor, the Optimus 4X HD. The device comes Monday as the first in Germany. Later this month will probably be for sale in the Netherlands.

The Optimus 4X HD runs on a Nvidia Tegra 3 soc, a quad-core processor based on the Cortex A9 microarchitecture. The Tegra 3 was previously used in the tablet Transformer Prime from Asus and the One X smartphone from HTC.

The device has a 4.7″screen with a 720p resolution, by LG, referred to as True HD IPS screen. This is a reference to competitor Samsung, which is 720p screens using the PenTile technology, which then one-third fewer subpixels.

The battery has a capacity of 2150mAh. LG has opted for a 8-megapixel camera for the back of the device, while on the front a 1.3-megapixel camera is to make use of video chat. The phone is equipped with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

The Optimus 4X HD comes Monday in the sale in Germany and according to the LG follows the Netherlands does not take too long time. It will be after the HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S III is the third smartphone with a quadcore processor on the Dutch market. LG last year was the first with an Android smartphone with dualcore processor.
