Lytro-lightfield-camera contains hardware for wifi and bluetooth

The FCC has pictures of the interior of the Lytro-lightfield-camera published showing that it has a Marvell chip for wi-fi and bluetooth. The camera supports officially, however, no wireless communications.

The Marvell Avastar 88W8787-soc makes according to Wireless Goodness for wi – fi- and bluetooth-functionality is possible, but Lytro has no mention of the hardware support for these wireless standards.

“The initial Lytro camera has no wi-fi support. Connectivity is important to us and we are working currently,” says the official statement of the Lytro compared to TechCrunch, following the discovery of the Marvell chip in the camera.

Possible, the company wants this functionality for a next model with reuse of the current design. It is not known if the current models via a firmware update in the future over wi-fi and bluetooth.

In the FCC photos is also the sensor to see. This is with dimensions of approximately 6.5 by 4.5 millimeters, slightly larger than the image sensor in an iPhone 4S, but smaller than an average 1/2,3″image sensor in most compact cameras use.

Lytro the resolution of this camera is specified at 11 ‘megarays’, a measure for the amount of light that the camera afvangt. The camera can be done via a set of micro-lenses in the direction of the light beams to determine and subsequently the focus in the photo set.
