PlayStation Vita gets maps and videos

On 8 march, Sony update 1.6 free of the PlayStation Vita firmware. The update adds a Google Maps-based feature to the handheld, as well as the option to record video. There appears, moreover, an OS X client.

The Japanese branch of Sony has released about update 1.6 of the PS Vita firmware. The firmware gives the handheld, which from February 22, in Europe, to buy two new features. In this way, the handheld Maps, an application that relies heavily on Google Maps. Thus the app is not only a map, but also satellite imagery. That last option can also be turned off. Users can use the app to route off, which can be chosen from a route for motorists or for pedestrians. The app can also display data about the selected locations, but is only interesting for those who have the 3g model of the PS Vita purchase. The wifi model has no gps functionality.

Further, the Photo-app of the PS Vita extended. Up to now with the camera only static images can be recorded. After the update the app can also capture moving images and store them on the special PS Vita memory card. At the same time with the firmware, Sony has also a OS X version free of the Content Management Assistant, the program that is needed to transfer data from or to the PS Vita. Up to now there is only a Windows version of the client available. Further changes to the name of the account that the players at the Sony. That is until now known as PlayStation Network Account, but on February 8, it will be renamed Sony Entertainment Network Account. The name change does not change the contents of the account.
